BMW LED Door Projector Light Kit Guide – Fitment, Sizing & Installation Tips

One of the most subtle yet popular visual upgrades for BMW enthusiasts is the LED door projector light kit. This simple mod adds a premium, personalized touch to your vehicle—casting the iconic BMW logo or M emblem onto the ground as you open the door.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know before purchasing, including sizing differences, compatibility, and installation tips, so you can ensure you’re selecting the correct kit for your specific BMW chassis.
BMW LED Door Projector Sizes: 50mm vs. 68mm
BMW offers two projector sizes:
- 50mm – Commonly found on newer-generation BMW models
- 68mm – Used on older BMW chassis
A frequent issue we’ve seen is customers ordering the wrong size projector for their vehicle. To avoid this, we recommend removing one of your existing puddle lights and either measuring the diameter or referencing the design. You’ll quickly be able to identify whether your car uses 50mm or 68mm units.

M Performance Logo Lens Compatibility
Regardless of projector size, BMW designed the M Performance slide kit (part number 53 31 2 469 631) to be compatible with both 50mm and 68mm projector housings. This means owners of any supported BMW chassis can upgrade their door logo without worrying about lens fitment.
Installation Overview
Installation is quick and requires only a flathead screwdriver:
- Carefully pry out the factory puddle light from the bottom of the door.
- Disconnect the factory connector.
- Plug in the new projector light.
- Snap the new unit into place.
Repeat the same process for both front and rear doors if your model includes rear puddle lights. The entire install typically takes under 10 minutes per door.
