The Öhlins Road & Track Coilover Suspension (VWS MU21S2) is engineered to fit a range of Audi and Volkswagen MQB performance platforms, including the Audi A3, S3, and RS3 (8V), TT, TTS, and TTRS (8S), and the Volkswagen Golf R (MK7). Built around Öhlins' Dual Flow Valve (DFV) technology, this system provides exceptional control over both compression and rebound damping, allowing the suspension to respond accurately to changing road and circuit conditions while maintaining consistent tire contact.
Unlike conventional damper designs, the DFV system manages fluid flow across the full range of shaft speeds. At low shaft speeds, fluid passes through the bleed circuit for controlled, compliant damping. As shaft speed increases, flow transitions through the piston ports, and under high load or sudden impacts, the DFV opens to allow additional flow. This results in improved bump absorption, increased traction, and reduced harshness — delivering the handling precision that MQB-platform performance vehicles are capable of at their best.
Öhlins compensates for heat-induced changes in fluid viscosity using a temperature-reactive needle bleed valve, which adjusts flow as damper temperatures rise during extended track use. This ensures consistent, predictable handling from street driving through sustained circuit sessions, regardless of ambient or operating conditions.
Ride height adjustment is handled independently from spring preload through a threaded lower mount design. This allows precise lowering without altering spring characteristics or reducing suspension travel, preserving the engineered balance of the system across all driving conditions.
