Technically Beautiful: Slon Workshop Now Available at IND

When you first encounter Slon Workshop, you may be fooled into thinking they're just another manufacturer of BMW aftermarket parts; and upon first inspection, that's exactly how they may come across. Dig a little deeper and it doesn't take long to locate the obsession lurking just beneath the surface.

Slon will tell you with that endearing 'no-frills' Russian outlook that they simply identify problems or short-comings in BMW models from the factory, typically due to cost, and then create something to solve the problem. Go to their website and you will find almost those exact words. It's not rocket science, right? Here's a problem, what can we do to fix it? Turns out, quite a lot.

F8X Carbon Front Upper Tie Bar:

If you're looking for a "wow" any time you lift the hood of your F8x, there's no better solution than Slon's Carbon Front Upper Tie Bar. It's made with a special weave and thickness that allows you to reduce weight and increase the strength of the body, as well as give your car a sportier and more modern look.

Slon coined the phrase "Technically Beautiful" to describe their parts and it's hard to argue with them. As this upper tie bar is made from a direct mold of the factory part, it is manufactured in strict accordance with the original geometry, fasteners location, and hood locks. So then it's a perfect replacement for your original front upper tie bar with the only difference being it's lighter, stronger, and absolutely beautiful to look at!

  • Ultra low weight: 1.5 lbs (vs OEM: 6.4 lbs)
  • Full carbon construction
  • Beautiful aesthetics
  • Fits F-Chassis 2, 3, and 4-Series and F8X M2 / M3 / M4

F8X Carbon Front Bumper Carrier:

One of the famous components from the LCI update of the E46 M3 was it's carbon kevlar front bumper carrier, designed to reduce weight from the very-most front position of the E46 M3. BMW even took this a step further in the M3 CSL by incorporating a fully carbon carrier directly into the CSL front bumper. Unfortunately these expensive design elements didn't make their way to later M Cars as the F8x M-Series models share their bumper mounting support with standard non-M models from factory.

Slon saw this as a major misstep by BMW in their later M cars and used the opportunity and their expertise to solve the problem with a lightweight and extremely rigid carbon bumper carrier to replace the modest OEM aluminum component.

  • Extra rigid carbon fiber construction
  • Ultra low weight: 3.26 lbs (vs OEM: 6.42 lbs)
  • OEM quality fitment
  • CNC machined billet mounts, include tow hook thread sleeve
  • Fits F-Chassis 2, 3, and 4-Series and F8X M2 / M3 / M4

F8X Carbon Rear Strengthening Wall:

The last F8X carbon component that we're featuring is probably Slon's most beautiful. It's also a simple, affordable, and an amazingly elegant way to significantly increase the torsional rigidity of your BMW's chassis. It used to be that installing a roll cage was really the only route available to you if you were looking to improve your car's handling via the stiffening of your chassis' torsional rigidity—no longer! Slon has produced an ingenious solution with their carbon rear strengthening wall.

This wall installs behind your rear seat, essentially sealing off your cabin from your trunk, but connecting an important rear cross-sectional area. So despite the fact that this may be more of a motorsport part, it is made with great attention to detail, pursuing not only the functional component, but with aesthetics in mind as well. The carbon rear wall looks exceptional, with a large M logo built into the carbon structure.

  • Exceptional increase in torsional rigidity of the chassis; for the same part on the E46 Chassis, a 30% increase in chassis rigidity was recorded
  • Ultra low weight: 3.67 lbs
  • Easy install. No special bodywork required – no welding, grinding; structural glue/adhesive is recommended for panel bonding.
    • Teroson EP 5055 (Slon-recommended)
    • Sikaforce 7888 (Used by BMW for carbon roof installation)
  • Full rear seats compatibility. The specially developed wall design allows to install the rear seats on their original place without any mods
  • Exclusive design adds pure performance to the interior
  • Fits F-Chassis 2, 3, and 4-Series and F8X M2 / M3 / M4

E9X M3 (S65) Vanos Covers Kit:

We're rounding out our selection of Slon products with one of the most important parts they make—their VANOS Covers Kit for the E9X M3's S65 engine. If you know anything about what keeps an internal combustion engine running, you've likely heard the term oil starvation before. A lack of adequate oil pressure runs the risk of accelerated internal wear due to the decrease in lubrication. If oil pressure is severely impacted, you're looking at catastrophic engine failure.

One of the most common problems with the BMW S65 engine are the VANOS plastic covers. The severity of their issue has different stages: when the covers just begin to crack and become loose on the VANOS units, or when the covers have completely fallen off the units. If broken plastic pieces from the OE covers get caught in the oil system, they're going to clog your oil pickup causing starvation. If the covers completely come loose, the result is likely going to be the purchase of a new engine.

Unfortunately, BMW doesn’t offer replacement covers; instead you must replace the complete VANOS unit with a failed cover (at a cost of roughly $1,000 per unit). With a quad-cam engine, you're looking at 4 units at considerable cost. The VANOS covers are designed to keep the VANOS springs in their place, so they cannot be deleted. A lack of VANOS cover will result in accelerated wear and failure of the springs.

Slon Workshop has developed their own unique set of replacement VANOS Covers. Their parts are a direct replacement for the failure prone original BMW covers, but instead are made from high-strength aluminum to completely eliminate future cover failure. Additionally, a unique advantage of their solution lies in the simple installation; their covers have clips just like the OEM parts so they do NOT require removal of the VANOS unit and subsequently resetting the valve timing with any special tools. Installation does not require any special skills and will only take an additional 5-10 minutes while the valve covers are removed.

  • Kit includes a complete set of 4 covers
  • Available in raw aluminum or black anodizing
  • Machined from high-strength aluminum
  • OEM quality fitment
  • Fits E9X M3 S65 Engine
