G87 M2 Portfolio Build: MMX Floating Carbon Ceramic Conversion
Ryan Overby September 17, 2025
On our new G87 M2 portfolio project we knew the build needed something truly exotic for the braking system. With a Porsche GT inspired direction, a carbon ceramic brake kit was the natural choice. Our partners in the UK at MMX developed a steel and ceramic rotor set designed to work directly with the factory BMW G8X calipers. This upgrade is an excellent option for customers looking to move into a CCB setup while retaining full functionality of the electronic e-brake.
The MMX rotors also provide flexibility for drivers who want to switch between carbon ceramic and steel. They are ideal not only as an upgrade but also as replacements for worn factory parts or as a steel conversion for the track season. To complete the setup on our M2, we paired the MMX CCB kit with Pagid performance brake pads and RBF650 brake fluid. This combination delivers excellent braking feel and stopping power for the S58 engine platform.
MMX Carbon Ceramic Rotors
Key Advantages
- Superior heat resistance, weight savings, and consistent stopping power
- Direct bolt-on fitment for G8X BMW M-cars
- Plug-and-play installation with no modifications required
- Fully floating mounting system for better heat management and durability
- Precision drilled design for optimal airflow and cooling
- Compatible with all OE-shaped ceramic compound pads
Performance Benefits
Each carbon ceramic rotor weighs just 6.9 kg, a 46% reduction compared to stock steel rotors. The drop in unsprung weight translates to quicker acceleration, sharper handling, and improved efficiency both on the road and at the track. The drilled and floating design improves cooling and durability, ensuring braking performance remains stable under extreme conditions.

MMX Steel Rotors
Key Advantages
- Up to 30% better cooling efficiency compared to OE discs
- Improved durability under spirited and track driving
- Grooved surface increases bite and removes pad debris
- Two-piece floating design with aluminum hats
- Left and right specific discs for optimal airflow
- Compatible with both OEM and aftermarket pads
Performance Benefits
Factory G-Series M-cars come with a strong six-piston caliper, but the stock discs are prone to warping and fading under heavy load. MMX steel rotors solve this with a two-piece 380mm x 36mm floating design that resists heat buildup and cracking. Internal vanes act as a pump, pulling cool air through the center of the rotor and pushing heat outwards. The result is a longer lasting, more efficient brake system that performs consistently even under hard use.

The Bottom Line
Whether you choose the MMX carbon ceramic kit for weight savings and exotic performance, or the MMX steel rotors for durability and track use, both options transform the driving experience of the G87 M2. Paired with Pagid pads and RBF650 brake fluid, this setup delivers the strong braking feel and reliability every performance driver demands.
