Humanity has been obsessed with time since the beginning of recorded history. Civilizations across the world have attempted to measure it, understand it, and control it, yet time remains undefeated. It cannot be negotiated with, purchased, or recovered once lost. IND’s “Burn the Clock” BMW E92 M3 Portfolio Project became a direct battle against that reality.

Nelson, the owner behind the project, was not an ordinary client. His collection included some of the most iconic supercars ever produced, including Bugatti Veyrons and a Ferrari Enzo. More importantly, unlike many collectors, Nelson genuinely drove his cars both on the street and at the track.
As a longtime BMW enthusiast dating back to the 1970s, Nelson became inspired after seeing IND’s original Atlantis Blue E90 M3 Portfolio Project. The unique BMW Individual Atlantis Metallic paint immediately stood out to him, but there was a problem: ordering a new Individual-spec M3 through BMW could take nearly a year.
IND was given a much more aggressive timeline.
The mission was simple:
- Build a BMW E92 M3 capable of standing beside Nelson’s exotic collection
- Complete the car in time for summer track season and Bimmerfest California
The deadline left IND with just two months to completely transform the car.

The project began with a brand new 2010 BMW E92 M3 showing only 29 miles on the odometer. Before the excitement surrounding the new build could fully settle in, IND’s technicians immediately began complete disassembly of the car.
The front end was removed almost immediately to prepare the S65 V8 for extraction and refinishing work.

Every component removed from the car was meticulously labeled, cataloged, and stored. Since the project involved a complete color transformation into BMW Individual Atlantis Metallic, the car would need to be rebuilt entirely by hand to factory standards.

This was not simply a repaint. IND’s goal was to create a car that looked and felt as if it had left BMW’s factory in Atlantis Metallic from day one.

The newly refinished chassis quickly began receiving major mechanical upgrades.
KW ClubSport coilovers and Brembo 380mm brakes finished in IND’s custom Machinery Grey became the foundation of the suspension and braking package. Rogue Engineering adjustable toe arms improved rear suspension geometry while Akrapovic’s titanium exhaust system dramatically reduced weight and transformed the sound of the S65 V8.

Power output also needed to match the visual drama of the build. ESS Tuning’s supercharger system became the centerpiece of the project, delivering exotic-level performance while maintaining reliability suitable for street and track use.
As expected, IND could not leave the engine bay untouched. The valve covers were refinished in gloss black, matching the polished ESS intake manifold and Atlantis Metallic engine accents.
The completed engine bay reflected the same philosophy seen throughout the build: OEM-level refinement with unmistakable motorsport influence.

To continue the M3 GTS-inspired direction of the project, IND partnered with Fall Line Motorsports to fabricate a custom chromoly roll bar using their Grand-Am racing experience as the foundation.
The roll bar was later refinished in Atlantis Metallic to seamlessly integrate into the interior while reinforcing the car’s motorsport identity.

Interior development became one of the most ambitious portions of the project.
IND sourced rare leather directly from BMW’s German suppliers to upholster the headliner, dashboard, and additional interior surfaces. Ericsson carbon fiber door panels were imported under an impossible deadline and painstakingly fitted to the car by hand.
The BMW Performance seats were fully reupholstered in leather to match the rest of the cabin while maintaining the aggressive GTS-inspired appearance.

The centerpiece of the interior became a fully custom carbon fiber rear closeout panel designed specifically for the Atlantis project. Working under an extremely compressed timeline, IND’s composites manufacturer created a one-off carbon rear interior section designed to integrate perfectly with the roll bar and Ericsson door panels.
The completed “IND GTS” interior transformed the E92 M3 into something that felt far closer to a factory-built motorsport special than a traditional street car.

Attention to detail extended into every corner of the car:
- Custom leather wrapped gauge pod
- Stack gauges
- Tri-color stitched shift and e-brake boots
- Gloss black refinished trim pieces
- Custom upholstery throughout the cabin
No detail was overlooked.

The wheel choice became one of the most difficult challenges of the entire build.
BBS FI wheels were nearly impossible to obtain at the time, and volcanic ash disruptions across Europe complicated transportation even further. IND ultimately coordinated direct pickup and airport delivery through contacts in Germany to ensure the wheels arrived in time for final assembly.
To this day, the Atlantis Blue E92 M3 remains one of the earliest and most iconic U.S. E92 M3 builds equipped with BBS FI wheels.

With the build nearing completion, ESS Tuning’s lead software engineer traveled to Chicago to finalize DCT programming and dyno tuning.
On the dyno, the ESS-supercharged S65 V8 produced approximately 522 wheel horsepower on just 6.5 psi of boost while screaming through the Akrapovic titanium exhaust system.
The result was a BMW E92 M3 capable of delivering true exotic-level performance while maintaining the refinement and usability expected from a modern M car.

By the time the project was complete, IND had achieved something far beyond a standard modified M3. Burn the Clock became a statement about execution under pressure, obsessive attention to detail, and the pursuit of perfection despite impossible timelines.
More than a decade later, the Atlantis Blue E92 M3 remains one of the defining IND Portfolio Projects of the E9X era.
