Rare parts have always been part of IND’s DNA. From the earliest days of the company, we have pursued components that push beyond typical aftermarket upgrades and bring true motorsport engineering to BMW enthusiasts. Our relationship with BBS Motorsport is a perfect example of that pursuit.
One of our earliest milestones with BBS dates back to the E9X M3 era. At the time we were building a fully repainted Atlantis Blue E92 M3, a no-expense-spared project that required equally special wheels. We knew the upcoming BBS FI wheel would be something extraordinary, so we contacted our partners in Germany and secured what would become the first set of BBS FI wheels to arrive in North America.
Getting them here was anything but simple. A massive volcanic eruption in Iceland had grounded flights across Europe, creating global shipping delays. After nearly twelve hours of scrambling with logistics companies, we managed to secure a flight that could transport the wheels to the United States. Shortly after, the very first set of BBS FI wheels in North America landed at IND.

Fast forward to today and we are still chasing the rarest and most technically advanced parts in the industry. Last week, the first set of BBS MAG-R wheels in North America arrived at IND.
The Debut of the BBS MAG-R
BBS Motorsport unveiled the all-new MAG-R forged magnesium wheel earlier this year at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan. The IND team was fortunate enough to attend the unveiling in person and see the wheel for the first time.
The MAG-R represents the latest evolution of BBS Motorsport wheel technology. Unlike many high-end wheels that rely on modular construction, the MAG-R is a fully forged one-piece magnesium wheel developed without compromise. Every aspect of the wheel was designed with performance as the primary objective.
In fact, the base magnesium forging used for the MAG-R is derived from the same blank used for Porsche GT3 RS magnesium wheels, which speaks volumes about the motorsport pedigree behind the project.
This is not simply a lightweight aftermarket wheel. It is a true motorsport-derived component developed by one of the most respected wheel manufacturers in the world.
Forged Magnesium Construction
Magnesium is one of the most advanced materials used in wheel manufacturing. Compared to aluminum, magnesium offers substantial weight savings while maintaining exceptional strength and rigidity. However, it is also far more difficult to work with, which is why only a handful of manufacturers globally have the capability to forge magnesium wheels at scale.
BBS Motorsport has decades of experience producing magnesium wheels for professional racing programs around the world. The MAG-R benefits directly from this racing heritage.
Each wheel is fully forged from magnesium, allowing BBS engineers to precisely control the structure, strength, and thermal properties of the wheel. The result is a wheel capable of handling the extreme heat and stress generated during high-performance track driving.
Designed Specifically for the BMW G8X Platform
The BBS MAG-R wheel was engineered specifically for the BMW G8X chassis, including the latest generation M cars:

Extreme Weight Reduction
One of the most impressive aspects of the MAG-R wheel is its weight. Each wheel weighs approximately 8 kilograms, which is exceptionally light for a 20-inch wheel.
Compared to the factory 20-inch forged BMW wheel, the MAG-R is more than 30 percent lighter.
Reducing unsprung mass has a significant impact on vehicle performance. Benefits include:

Despite the exotic magnesium construction, each wheel receives a special OEM-certified protective coating developed by BBS. This coating protects the magnesium structure from corrosion while maintaining the structural integrity required for long-term use.
