3D Design Japan x IND: a partnership built on craft, not trends

Ryan Morgan August 28, 2025

Some partnerships are transactional. Ours with 3D Design Japan is personal. For more than 15 years, 3D Design has felt like family at IND. Japan’s car culture shapes what the world does next, and 3D Design lives that culture with parts born on the circuit and refined for the street. What keeps us aligned is simple: shared standards for engineering integrity, fitment you can trust, and parts that elevate how a BMW looks, feels, and drives.

3D Design team and brand context

Who 3D Design is

Founded in 1998 by three BMW-focused designers with real racing pedigree, 3D Design set a clear philosophy from day one: build the BMW parts they would use themselves, with the end user at the center, from circuit to street. In 2006 the leadership team evolved, bringing in veterans with a decade plus of product and marketing experience, while keeping that original mission intact.

What makes 3D Design different

3D Design does not chase volume for its own sake. They obsess over surfaces, fit, and the way a car communicates back to the driver. Digital tools accelerate development, but final forms are still shaped through traditional hand modeling between designers and modelers because real surfaces reveal what simulations can miss. The result is aero that integrates like OEM, exhaust that sounds right and flows right, and chassis parts that feel balanced rather than flashy.

How development actually happens

Suspension and brake systems are validated in the places owners really drive: circuits for limits, winding roads for rhythm, and city streets for daily realism. Engine and exhaust packages are confirmed on the dyno to verify gains. That test loop informs revisions until the part is something the team is proud to install on its own cars.

Headquarters and showroom

Since 2017, 3D Design’s headquarters has been in Yokohama. It serves as a working showroom for products and demo cars, a place to purchase lifestyle goods and tuning services, and even a base for complete car builds.
