Brick by Brick

While perfecting our business here at IND Distribution we’ve found that many things used to improve a business can simply be bought- new equipment, a larger building, even additional staff can all be added with a simple infusion of funds. Improving a business can be a relatively easy task in this way, simply add money and the business can grow and expand. While there is truth to this lesson, this knowledge comes with a caveat. This is because some of the most critical things in business cannot be purchased, borrowed, or even stolen.

A company’s heritage can never be bought, it can only be earned. Decades of hard work and sacrifice are what give a business its unique personality, it’s story. As we begin a major remodel of our building we reflect on where this structure has been, what stories it’s walls tell us, and where it will take us in the future.

The building that houses IND is much more than just that, it is a reflection of three generations of heritage. Starting with Luciano Palella, a first generation immigrant from Italy, our shop was built brick-by-brick by its own workers to be what it is today. The trench for each paint booth was dug by Luciano himself, and all of us at IND have had a hand in maintaining the building.

This year we will give back to the place that gives us our identity by renovating this building. 30 years of use as a shop and warehouse take their toll on any structure, and this month we will begin a major remodeling of our facility that will be completed in stages and last through the summer. We will post progress as we go, so check back frequently for more updates!

500 ///Miles

Toronto, Ontario is exactly 556 miles away from IND Distribution. According to Google that’s a 9 and a half hour trip in a car, a two day trip by bicycle, or a 6 day journey for those of us brave enough to make the crossing on foot.

Only a hundred years ago a 550 mile trip was not something to be taken lightly- it was more likely to be a permanent relocation than a short outing. Those embarking on such a journey would usually never return to their point of origin.

So why would our client (Gkap on this forum) push through cities like Detroit, Michigan and Gary, Indiana to install wheels, a trunk, and a front lip and diffuser combination? Couldn’t a shop in Toronto do that, without the grueling trek across industrial America?

Gkap tells me that for him a trip like this is not about the end product, but rather the experience. Visiting Chicago with a friend, exploring the city, and making friends with the staff at IND along the way is what counts for him. Rather than obsess over the finished product that his M3 might one day become, Gkap is more interested in the memories he’ll gain while working the create the M3 of his dreams.

The way this M3 is modified can be seen as a representation of that outlook. There are without a doubt more extensively modified E9x M3 cars in the US but outpacing these cars is not our client’s concern. Gkap was able to maintain a crystal clear focus on his own ideal vision of an M3, and this vision reflects in the car’s absolutely classic look.

Gkap chose tasteful restraint, intentionally skipping parts that others might have added and created a truly timeless BMW as a result. The Arkym front lip and Challenge Sport rear diffuser were finished in IND’s gloss black for an understated appearance worthy of the 20 inch silver BBS LM wheels destined to fill the M3’s wheel arches. A Vorsteiner trunk gives the rear of the car a now classic look, while an all white paint scheme maintains the car’s minimalist theme. Gkap intentionally kept the M3 emblem off of the trunk to ensure that nothing interfered with the simple lines. PSS10 coilovers provide the perfect ride height, placing the car just over it’s Michelin PS2s.

While all of these parts would have made for a great M3 on their own, our client knew that something was missing. He knew we had to improve the appearance of the headlights and we immediately made a call to OSS. We knew our schedule would be extremely tense as the car would only be at IND for four days, so we had to work quickly. Within hours of the car’s arrival here at IND the headlights were removed and sent to OSS with overnight service. Luis at OSS made some spectacular moves to immediately add his touches to the M3’s lighting, and sent them back just in time for an install just two days later.

Finally by Thursday the car was complete and our only remaining task was to enjoy it. After taking a day trip to photograph the car we made our final arrangements and sent Gkap on his way. Gkap is a great type of car enthusiast- he knows that great cars are made even better by the experience they give you and the friends they help you make along the way. Here’s to great cars, great friends, and great experiences!

A Brushed Summer!

When I started working at IND, I was hoping that helping others pick their modifications for their BMWs would then kill my urge to mod my own. Well, so much for that. However talking with the people in the industry as well as IND’s customers gave me insight on which quality products to go for. For that I am happy for.

With that said I would like to say thank you to HRE for their incredible service and their attention to detail. I have had many brand of wheels in the past and always love receiving wheels from this company. They always produce wheels in a timely manner and there is never a need to hound them for updates.

So here is my current E90 M3 6mt that I purchased in fall. Never again will I sell the M3 and THINK another car can replace it. It really is the best all around car that I know of. My Interlagos M3 will be missed!

Current Mod list.
Eisenmann Sport Exhaust
Challenge Sport Xpipe
KW Sleeve Over kit
BMW Edition front and side grilles
IND Reflectors

Brushed Clear Finish

Hankook RS-3

Fast, done faster.

Many of our clients lead busy lives, and can’t dedicate an entire working week to modifying their cars so when our client approached us for a supercharger install and told us he wanted to arrive at our facility at 9am and depart again no later than that afternoon, we knew we had to plan very carefully in order to meet his deadline. Each piece had to be in place before our client’s arrival at our facility.

A Motorsport 24 oil cooler was held on one of IND’s shelves, waiting for install. We contacted ESS tuning, and ensured that a new flash cable was delivered directly to our client a week in advance. ESS created a tuned file for our client’s supercharger well in advance so that the file was ready to flash to his DME. The intake manifold was pre-painted weeks before our client’s arrival, our techs reserved, and a lift held open. Before long, every piece was in place.

Our client arrived on a crisp Monday morning at 8:45 am, his beautiful Monte Carlo Blue M3 fitting in nicely next to the other M3s at our shop that day. Within minutes the car was pulled onto one of our lifts, and our techs began removing the engine’s accessories. The supercharger and oil cooler install was completed shortly after the clock struck noon, and with ESS’ software loaded to the car within an hour the M3 was ready for it’s maiden voyage!

Our client left IND smiling, looking forward to his journey home. Thank you, Arter, for giving us an opportunity to work on your M3!

E9x M3 iND Sport EVO Front Lip

IND Distribution’s contacts in the BMW world allow us access to some amazing opportunities from time to time, and our new Sport Evo front lip is a direct result of one such opportunity. An homage to the original BMW front lip seen on the M3 GTS and the E30 M3 Sport Evo, the Sport Evo lip is a fully functional piece designed for extreme use in a motorsport environment. The upper section of the front lip is constructed from highly flexible FRP with an emphasis on a high plastic content for flexibility, while the splitter section is built for increased rub resistance.

Supplied brackets attach the splitter to the frame via the OE oil cooler mounting points, and the splitter is easily adjusted for more or less downforce with female torx fastners located at the bottom of the splitter. All necessary hardware, a fitment template, and complete instructions are included.

These lip kits will be produced in a limited run of 33 pieces in raw FRP and 22 pieces in gloss carbon.

E46 M3 Finned Differential Cover by Motorsport 24!

M24 addresses the E46 M3’s weak differential cover by building a one-off cover machined completely from billet aluminum stock. The flexible OE bushings are eliminated for a simpler, more robust design that also more immediately transfers power through the drive train and to the rear wheels. Cooling fins are integrated into the cover, while the cover’s extra reinforcement ribs increase the strength of the mounting flange. The mounting ears on the differential cover are also reinforced, which addresses a known failure point of the original E46 M3 differential cover.

A Family Matter

Any business will drive the people involved to form friendships that go beyond a simple utilitarian exchange, but when your business is to help people create the cars of their dreams you have an opportunity to connect that is beyond anything that people encounter in more “every day” industries. Working at IND has allowed us to form life-long friendships, and welcome our clients to the IND family.

Philip is one such client. He is not only a life-long friend, but a true member of the IND family. Working on Philip’s M3 is always a pleasure because we know that each time he ships the car to our facility he is placing his trust in us as a member of our family, and we do our best to treat him accordingly. This time, Philip’s car made it’s journey from New York to feed a never-ending addiction to power that’s shared by many who choose to add an ESS kit to their car. Philip changed transformed his already potent VT1-535 equipped M3 into a monster by upgrading to an ESS VT2-600 kit. In combination with his 4.10 differential the car’s midrange and top end response is even better than a standard M3, and the car is now a real force to be reckoned with.

IND added GTS door sills for a subtle reference to this M3’s newfound power, and a hand-pinstriped ESS VT2 600 badge on the trunk for a less subtle statement that tells those following the car to be wise when challenging Philip’s M3.
